Montauk is also arguably the least fancy spot on the South Fork, with putt-putt mini golf, a drive-in burger joint, and competing pancake houses. Hotels are cheaper here—and plentiful—and many are within walking distance of both the ocean and the train and bus stations.
Despite what you may have heard about the wild party scene at Sunset Beach Hotel, Shelter Island is a sleepy place with little in the way of nightlife and a lot in the way of old-school charm and nature. Greenport, on the other hand, becomes more and more Hamptons-like with each passing year, as new shops and restaurants fill the downtown storefronts. While Greenport has become more of a destination, it and the rest of the North Fork are still more rural than the Hamptons.
Prices are lower than on the South Fork, and because the North Fork is a bit less of a tourist attraction than its neighbors to the south, there are more locals. East Hampton East Hampton Including Springs and Northwest Harbor East Hampton is physically at the heart of the East End, approximately equidistant to both Montauk and Southampton—and its place in the spectrum of Hamptons-ness is about center, as well—not uptight, but not totally laid back either. The narrow streets are home to antique shops, trendy boutiques and restaurants serving some of the best food in The Hamptons. Million dollar mansions rub shoulders with historic cottages and the old and new blend seamlessly together. The Foster Memorial Beach is the perfect family beach with warm, shallow water and fine sand and as it is west-facing the sunsets are incredible and well worth staying on the beach for.
The Sag Harbor Sailing School is great for water-based activities from learning to kayak right up to being captain of your own yacht.

Southampton is the place in The Hamptons to view exclusive mansions with their manicured lawns and expensive cars. Meadow Lane is where the serious money is and the average house price is around 18 million US dollars.
Old money oozes through Southampton and the residents and visitors flock to spend it in the classy shops and galleries in Jobs Lane and Main Street. This celebrity summer playground has glitzy restaurants and bars and nightclubs galore. The Parrish Art Museum has a great selection of artists! Visit Montauk Lighthouse. I have been obsessed with this brand for a while, maybe because of it reminds me of the Cuban summer fashion from the 80s and 90s or just because my mom has always been obsessed with flowy cotton, embroidery and lace.
Urban Zen. The first time I visited the store was right after my 1st Africa trip and it just happened to be that the collection had African motifs.
I also spent an hour bonding with one of the jewelry designers that collaborates with the brand. The food and the drinks afterwards might have also contributed to my love for this Sag Harbor space!
Henry Lehr. For a mouth watering lunch head to the town of Montauk and stop by The Gig Shack. My recommendations: P. I Mussels, the lobster roll and the lamb sliders.
