I found there were some plot items here and there I didn't understand, but overall I still enjoyed ME2's plot without playing ME1. It's partially duplicate; both ask if there's something in ME1 needed to understand ME2, but you also ask if the PC version is different from the Xbox one. Add a comment. Active Oldest Votes. You can skip ME 1 if you so choose.
However consider these points before making your decision: ME 1 has a quite bit of story you would be missing out on if you skip it. There is one crucial decision regarding which squad member you want to sacrifice and which one you want to save. You have the option to save Major Kirrahe, who is worth some points towards military strength in ME 3. You have a confrontation with Urdnot Wrex. Without him, Urdnot Wreave will be in charge in ME 3 and you will not be able to save Eve from dying.
There is an encounter with the last Rachni queen. You could choose to let go and disappear, but she comes back in ME 3. Some amount of resources you find in ME 1 are carried over, helpful for researching upgrades in ME 2. Romances are carried over from ME 1.
Experience the frustration in driving the Mako. Cuddletauren 19 Nov, pm. I've played through the trilogy so many times, but only as a man sheppard, but I couldn't imagine starting ME2 with my femshep, as there are a bunch of hidden characters to discover like the old lady gang leader who does social work in ME2 , plus I wouldn't want to miss any of the femshep dialogue or sex scenes.
Smithy Winfred 5 Sep, am. ME1 is definitly worth it, especially the first time playing. Maybe worth a skip on the third or fourth playthrough, but it does a good job of setting up the universe, which is critical. Very helpful Thank you! A-Mei-Zing 3 Sep, pm. The only real things you miss are small side missions that have no real effect on the plot.
Any major stuff is chosen in the DLC comic if you have it. Other than sometimes meeting the side characters in certain areas the only real thing you get is some minerals and credits for having a ME1 save.
I just wish they did the comic thing for ME3 but it at least looks for saves unlike ME2 where you have to import it. This should give it the permissions it needs to do final prep work and the game will run no problem and very smoothly on newish HW.
I run ME1 on Win 8. Very interesting and helpful guide thanks! However, I would like to be certain that I can run it as my system is now Windows 7 and I've wasted money before buying a couple of Steam games that I couldn't run because they were not backwards compatible. I can also recognize that the cover-shooting in the inaugural Mass Effect game could be clunky at times. But seriously, Mass Effect the first one is good. Better than good, even. In some ways it absolutely shits all over the other two. And now that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has officially been confirmed , I'm going to beg you to actually play it this time around.
The first Mass Effect game introduced us to some of the most iconic characters in the entire series: Garrus, Wrex, Tali, Liara. After creating a Star Wars game and an Asian-inspired fantasy adventure, the BioWare leads sat down and discussed their next project and decided they wanted to channel Star Wars to create their own space opera saga.
However, the universe feels at its most well-realized and unique in the first game. Out went the tight-fitting spacesuits and in came the bulky, more recognizable N7 Armor.
Because of this, the first Mass Effect is worth your time. Warts and all. For those people, I have some advice. First of all, understand that the first Mass Effect gets significantly better as you go along. The squad member AI is quite tenacious in Mass Effect - so use that to your advantage. Turn down the difficulty, and use the options to set them to be as self-sufficient and aggressive as possible.
Design your Shepard to be a support class like the Sentinel or Infiltrator. In this scenario you can hang back, using support powers or sniper fire to assist your squad as they rip through enemies.
This will in turn just let you enjoy the narrative and the atmosphere, which is excellent.
