This may not be enjoyable or worth it, however, on extremely windy days as you are fully exposed on the ridge. There are benches and informational signs marking the peaks you can see. Bring a picnic and relax here before heading home. The trail to Laguna Capri is the first 4 km of the trail to Laguna de los Tres, starting at the car park at the end of Avenida San Martin.
Take the path to the right. The trail goes uphill out of town before descending down to Ruta Provincial 41 the dirt road that leads to Lago del Desierto. And yes, that parking lot means you can drive here and walk only half a kilometer, which is exactly what we did. The trailhead is the same as Mirador de los Condores, turn to the left for the Condores and to the right for Pliegue Tumbado.
The trail starts with about a kilometer of elevation gain. The drive there is slow as the road is unpaved but the views in the Rio de las Vueltas valley are worth it.
We had a rental car but there are private transfers and guided tours you can hire, just talk to the travel agencies in downtown El Chalten we saw a lot of minibus tours coming and going all day. The hike has an entry fee as the entire trail is on private property but it only cost us the equivalent of a few dollars at the time February The trailhead is right by the free parking lot next to the cafe pop into the cafe post-hike for hot chocolate!
Luckily, there are ropes strung up on the trees to help you pull yourself up. The hike back is complete descent and a breeze. This hike has HUGE rewards for very minimal effort. There are a few amazing hikes, boat excursions on the lake, and excellent fly fishing in the river.

If coming from Puerto Natales: After jumping out of bed early, we will head to the Cerro Castillo border crossing with Argentina. Our drive will take us across isolated dirt roads, through the pampas and along the northern side of Viedma Lake. We will begin our hike by heading towards Laguna Capri, passing its northern corner. Where better in the world to enjoy our picnic and soak up the gorgeous scenery?
Here we will spend and enjoy the final night inour hotel. Today we will embark upon a full day hike along the Cerro Torre trail to Laguna Torre, a glimmering mountain lake with the majestic Mount Torre looming behind. We will be putting our best foot forward straight after breakfast, walking eastwards and blazing our trail through beech forests, towards Fitz Roy River.
We will continue towards Base Camp de Agostini, and then make a short hike to Laguna Torre, admiring the western view of Cerro Torre and the Adela range. Our eyes will be met by icebergs serenely floating on Laguna Torre as the gusty wind sets them drifting towards the coast.
