We began our conversation by reviewing the depth of inspiration that Jesus gave and then began to look at how he did it. Now, obviously being the perfect son of God put Jesus in a natural position to be inspiring, but there was much more to it than that.
Jesus used seven very specific methods to inspire others, and by observing how he used them, we can we can begin to unlock the secrets of being inspirational ourselves. Jesus would ask questions to create a thought or a thought pattern in the hearts of potential followers. By asking a question instead of declaring a truth, Jesus actually gave ownership of whatever the lesson was that he was teaching to the potential disciple, and when we own something we tend to take better care of it.
So, questions really can be tools to guide others and to lift them up to a higher level of thinking. In short, questions can really inspire. We just need to make sure the questions we ask are for the benefit and betterment of those we are addressing, otherwise our results will be far from inspiring. Just thinking about that is inspiring! Remember, we as Christians are to love all men and that includes our enemies, so while thinking about implementing this key is exciting, it is certainly not without its challenges.
Keys three through seven? No time for those now, but that does not mean they do not have the same potential impact as the first two. Your email address will not be published. An example of when Jesus does this is in Matthew Jesus goes to the mountainside and a man with leprosy follows him. He kneels before him and asks him to make him clean. Jesus touches the man and heals him from his leprosy. Then Jesus told him to not tell anyone that he was healed, but to continue on with his life. Jesus was always satisfied with what he had. He was always content with the amount of clothes, shelter, and possessions he had, and he was always grateful for his life and what he had in it.
He never wanted more and was never thinking about the future, he was just thankful for the things that were in his life in the present. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? It is inspiring to notice and be grateful for the things in life that matter, and to live in the moment and not the future. Be grateful for your place on earth, and for life, and try not to get caught up in the world of materials and being in the latest trend.
Jesus is inspiring in this way because we can easily associate with it. Everyone gets caught up in preoccupation of the latest trends, but Jesus was able to look past the clothes that people wear, and the food they have, and focus on the appreciation of living and the world around us. Jesus could disregard the amount of money and how wealthy people were, and he regarded being happy as more important, and it is inspiring that he could think like this.
In our world today, people have started to adopt this mindset, that the amount of money you have is how successful you are, but those that are wealthy, may not be happy. Happiness is more important than wealth. Jesus would not judge people. Jesus would never judge people by their wealth, looks, or religion. He loved everyone no matter what and would never see anyone as less superior to him.
Jesus came to earth with powers from God, yet he never took it as being more powerful to others. He could have been able to make others serve him, yet he served others because he never judged them or saw them as smaller than him. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
This is inspiring because judging others is a large problem in our society today. It is hard not to look at people and judge them by how they present themselves or what they are wearing, but we all know that it is something that we have to train ourselves not to do. Jesus is inspiring because he shows us how this can be done, and that it is possible to stop judging people.
What do I find inspiring about Jesus? The stories are very moving and deeply harrowing. There was no concept of trauma counselling in s or 80s Britain and these poor people just had to soldier on as best they could. In the face of such terrible experiences, persistence in life is very difficult. One survivor said that it was only when he realised that dedicated medical staff had fought for his life for days — and that his wife had fought to keep him going every day since — that he was able to pick himself up and persist.
There is a sense in which Elisha, like Jesus, was transfigured, as the apparently transfigured Elijah disappeared from view and Elisha tore his clothes in two.
Note that when the doubters, on several occasions, closed around Elisha and warned him about the consequences of persisting, Elisha told them to be silent. Once, as he censured Stalin in a public meeting, Khrushchev was interrupted by a shout from a heckler in the audience. Elisha needed silence as he intently watched Elijah.
He would never take his eyes off him because he must not miss the promise of the future. When Elijah disappeared from view the people never forgot him. In fact, they were waiting for his reappearance because they believed he had never died in the first place. May the awareness of that fact inspire us today as we continue to experience life in the in-between. Our mission is to be a Christian community sharing the love of Christ, reaching out to the people in this area and encouraging them to worship God and grow in the knowledge of the care and love of Christ.
Why such an odd number? Why did the English adopt that particular gauge? Why were wagons built to that scale? So who built these old rutted roads? Next time, when you feel like you are no good to be on this earth, just remember these traits of Jesus, and give yourself the most powerful inspiration ever….
