There are cheaper versions of the same type of material. It's Dyn a mat. There are cheaper alternatives, and it does make a difference if your car doesn't have good sound dampening to begin with.

It works really well too. You are going to have to look around, the last time I mass loaded my cars sheet metal I got a rolled rubber roofing material that stuck quite well most of the time. There were fewer rattles and the road noie was abated a little. Its like the extra crap dealer sell you, it works but its expensive. Sometime getting an undercoating on your car will also cut down on some road noise.
Also have a look at Fatmat. They have their sound dampering material for much cheaper then Dynamat. Also I don't work for me, but people on nasioc. I used dynamat in the trunk of my 91 accord damn I miss that car and it did wonders for my sound. I had a 12" sub in the trunk and the whole car rang before the dynamat, sounded great after the install. I drive a 99 Honda Civic and installed myself Dynamat in the doors, floor, trunk area.
Personally I wanted to isolate the road noise and stop the rattles which I felt worked as expected. I think the best way to describe the different is the sound when closing the doors. When you shut the door it's a nice, "thunk" sound, my friend's Civic same model sounds like a "twang". Oh, from my experience I also found that you don't need to cover the area end to end but place strips instead.
